Animated film has been a domain of boundless expressive power for more than 100 years. In the US, the 1970s was a particularly fruitful period, celebrated with this program of recent restoration. The combined forces of (now vanished) public support, daring lenders, easy access to equipment, good training facilities, and new talent have resulted in a thrust of memorable, transgressive and epoch-making animated films. The Academy Film Archive has been taking care of its backup since its inception. (mt) In the presence of Marc Toscano, Alejandro Bachmann, Michael Loebenstein (Austrian Filmmuseum)
